about

"When you stand on the edge of the Cuk Do’ag mountain range, facing east during the winter sunrise, you can catch the sunlight racing across the Tucson valley. A slow, but deliberate unfolding. This is the best way to describe the sounds of Cazo’s Something in Yesterday’s Valley. Light shining, gently & tenderly, across the valley of the heart.

S.I.Y.V. is beyond genre classification––melding jazz, dream-pop, cumbia, folktronica, & dance rhythms––to create a sound that is uniquely Cazo. But in truth, musical language doesn’t do justice to the vulnerability & the care deeply embedded in Cazo’s songwriting. Her voice is a breeze blowing through the mesquites on a hot summer day; her words are the raindrops of a magnificent monsoon; her poetry is the golden hour of a Tucson evening.

This album is best experienced with your dear ones, driving to the mountains, laughing & crying & singing along to the truths Cazo offers over the course of 40 minutes. Play this album as you move throughout your days of plenty & of pain; as you cry & mourn the moments that can’t return; as you choose love & all that comes with it; as you take in all the beauty of this valley called your heart.

Cazo has graciously shown us the map of her heart’s valley, & has invited us to stay & see what arrives when the day unravels.

Take it all in. One breath at a time."
